Make a tiara for your Prom in Birmingham

Would you like to make your own beautiful tiara to wear to your prom.  Make it in a colour to match your dress using beautiful crystal and pearl beads. Come to a tiara making workshop at the Birmingham School of Sewing.  You will learn how to make a beautiful tiara (no sewing involved). At the end of the 2 hours you will take home your beautiful tiara and look like a real princess on the day of your prom.

Tiara Making Course


Tiara making Workshops  (Jewellery - no sewing involved)

Would you like to know how to make tiaras for the bride and bridesmaids using beautiful crystal and pearl beads. Then come along to one of our tiara making workshops at the Birmingham School of Sewing.  You will learn how to make a beautiful tiara (no sewing involved). You will learn how to make flowers from beads and how to bind the tiara band. You will have a beautiful tiara to take home at the end of the workshop.

 

 

The workshop tutor  is Debbie Lewis who is qualified and experienced in jewellery making and currently runs her own business.

Pattern Cutting Workshop for NQT’s and Textile Teachers

Textiles Workshops for NQT’s and Textile Teachers

Who should attend:
PGCE Textile Students
Newly Qualified Teachers
Non specialist Textile Teachers

Workshop times:
The workshop runs from 10 am till 4pm
Refreshments and lunch provided

Workshop Aims:
To introduce teachers to basic pattern cutting principles and pattern manipulation in order for them to be able to assist their students to manipulate their commercial patterns whilst producing garments for GCSE and A level coursework

Course Details:
This course is suitable for teachers teaching KS4 and KS5 and includes:

  • Demonstration of equipment
  • Taking accurate measurement
  • Basic pattern cutting techniques such as slashing and pivoting of darts
  • Drafts and simple patterns
  • Varying silhouettes for bodices, skirts and sleeves

This is an intensive hands-on day.  You will leave with a portfolio of samples that you have produced during the day that you can use as exemplars in future lessons.

Workshop Cost:
£195.00   (All materials required will be supplied on the day and are included in the price).  Classes are small and informal and offer lots of one to one support.

Workshops are for a maximum of 6 people so it is advised to book early

Hen Parties with a difference

Do something different for your Hen Party.    Bring your friends along to have great fun together whilst creating something special for you and your wedding.  Perhaps they could all get together to make you some personalised bunting, make you a ring cushion, a garter, a bridal veil, the event would be suitable for absolute beginners  to people who are very good at sewing, there will be something for everyone to do.

 Learn to Crochet - Crochet for Beginners

The aim of this workshop is to teach you the crochet basics. During this crochet for beginners workshop you will learn:

  • How to hold a crochet hook
  • How to hold the yarn
  • How to make a slip knot
  • How to produce a crochet chain
  • How to produce a slip stitch
  • How to work a Double Crochet stitch
  • How to fasten off
  • How to prepare the carrier bags for crocheting

The above techniques are traditional crochet techniques that can be used with all types of yarn.    In keeping with our eco theme we will be using recycled plastic bags during our crochet session.   You will be shown how to make a tote bag with your new crochet skills.   You will be given the crochet pattern to take away to finish your bag.    Should you wish to finish your tote bag in company are welcome to join us at the Sewing, Knitting and Crochet Cafe each Sunday at a cost of £5 per hour with complimentary tea, coffee and cakes.

Tiara and Statement Ring Courses

 

Debbie Lewis is a qualified jewellery maker and has had her own business selling beautiful bridal tiaras and jewellery made with Swarovski Crystals.   She has been teaching jewellery making for the past 7 years at various adult education centres.

Debbie is now joining the Birmingham School of Sewing to teach a variety of sewing crafts and jewellery making.

Fashion Design Course (age 11-19)

These workshops are aimed at budding  fashion designers.  The workshops are for teenagers who want to learn how to make their own clothing and as a taster for career minded students wishing to make a career in design and fashion.   You will learn to use sewing machines and overlockers  to create clothing and accessories for yourselves. Using patterns students will create various projects. Our budding designers are given free reign to stylize and decorate their creations they make with machine embroidery, hand embroidery, fabric paint, ribbons and trims making their products truly unique.   At the end of the course we will organise a fashion show for parents and friends. 

After School Sewing and

Dressmaking Course

The first sewing workshops for 7-10 year olds  that took place at the Birmingham School of Sewing in October were a great success and due to popular demand we have decided to offer after school sewing clubs, school holiday workshops and sewing parties for children.

The After School Sewing Club will take place during term time with a wide variety of projects to make.

For age 7-10  each session will be from will be from 4-5.30
Date:   3 Tuesdays:   Tuesday 17th January, Tuesday 24th January and Tuesday 31st January 2012
Time:  4.00pm-5.30pm Cost:   £45 for 3 sessions.
